anyways i've been meaning to start using rainmeter again; now that i know the basics of c++, the whole skinning thing will probably seem a lot less intimidating than it previously did (maybe i could start taking requests or something? would be good practice)

Rainmeter doesn't require any real programming knowledge, it's mostly just setting measures and meters and bangs and all that other fancy stuff in an .ini file. The hard part would be remembering what it is that you can do, but they've got documentation on everything so you can usually look it up.

no the documentation is shit

Really? It seems to me like you can look up any measure/meter/etc you want and it gives you a list of all the attributes you can apply, and what they do. It doesn't seem like there's much more they would need, unless they're missing a bunch of stuff.
